Grant is an Olympic silver medalist has won five Queensland and a further five Australian Kayak Championships over the course of his professional career. He has paddled surf skis for Northcliffe Surf Lifesaving Club and won nine state and four national titles. Grant is a vastly experienced longboarder, whose impressions of the Empress Classic are as follows: "As the board is constructed of timber, it has very little flex, which makes it feel more responsive under your feet. The extra weight enables it to glide fabulously, and also trim very smoothly. The board has a good acceleration and it is the most indestructible board I have ever ridden.
